How to use the Document Viewer, Editor & Converter

Got an HWP file from a Korean school, company or government office and no Hangul software? Convert it to Word and open it in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or Pages.

Convert PDF to JPG, HWP to Word, and Word to PDF from separate tools on this site.

  1. Drop a file into the box above, or click it to choose one.
  2. Check the preview on the right to see that tables and images came through.
  3. Click the save button for the format you want. Multi-page images come as one ZIP.

What is Bakooda?

Bakooda is a tool for opening Hangul (Hancom Office) files (HWP, HWPX), PDF and Word (DOCX) documents in your browser without installing anything, and converting them to other formats. Pick the source format and target format in the two boxes above, or just drag a file in and the format is detected automatically. Viewing is unlimited; only downloading a converted file counts toward the daily limit.

Your files are not sent to a server

Conversion happens inside the browser you are using right now. Document contents are never sent over the internet; the server only records a count of how many downloads you made today. That makes it reasonably safe to open work documents or papers containing personal information. When you close the window, the document loaded in the browser is gone too.

Supported conversions

Good to know before converting

Each document format supports different features, so complex documents may look slightly different after conversion. In particular, on a computer without Hangul-specific fonts, similar fonts are substituted and line breaks may shift. Before submitting or printing, open the converted file once and check the page count and tables.

Choose the result you need

Editability and page fidelity depend on the output format. Reopen and check any file before submitting it.

TaskResult and limitation
HWP → WordEdit text in DOCX. Fonts, table widths and page breaks can shift.
HWP → PDFSaves each page as an image. The appearance is easy to share, but PDF text cannot be searched or selected.
PDF → WordMoves text from a text-based PDF into editable DOCX. Check scans and complex layouts against the original.
PDF → JPGSaves each page as JPG; multiple pages arrive in a ZIP. Text inside the image is not editable.

FAQ

I'm not sure which format to choose.

Choose Word (DOCX) to edit, PDF to send or print with the layout intact, or JPG to post as an image in messaging apps like KakaoTalk or on message boards. If you have to submit a Hangul file, convert to HWPX, which opens in Hangul 2014 and later.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. In Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android, you can pick a document from the Files app or your Downloads folder. Documents with a very large number of pages convert faster on a computer.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion happens only in the browser you are using. The server records only how many conversions you made today.

How many free conversions do I get?

Without an account you can download 2 converted files and save 2 edited documents a day. Sign up for free to get 5 of each a day. Viewing and previews do not count. The count resets at midnight Korea time (UTC+9).

Which files can I convert?

HWP and HWPX can become Word, HWPX, PDF, JPG, HTML or TXT. Word (DOCX) can become Hangul (HWPX), PDF or JPG, and PDF can become Word, Hangul (HWPX) or JPG. You can also just view a file without converting it.

How do I get the JPGs?

A one-page document downloads as a single JPG; a longer one downloads as one ZIP with a JPG per page. Either way it counts as one conversion.

Are tables and images kept?

Yes. Merged cells, cell colors and borders, images, bold, italics, font sizes and colors, alignment, footnotes and page breaks are carried over.

Is anything left out?

HWP headers, footers and page numbers are left out. Floating images and text boxes are placed in the text flow, and equations appear as Hangul equation script.

Some files won't open.

Password-protected documents, Hangul distribution documents, HWP 3.0 (Hangul 97 and earlier) and old Word (.doc) files cannot be opened. Remove the password or save in a newer format.

Does it work on Mac and phones?

Yes. Recent Chrome, Safari and Edge work on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone.
