How to use the PDF to Word Converter

Use it when you need to edit a PDF you received. Text and tables are rebuilt as Word paragraphs and tables; scanned PDFs come across as page images.

  1. Drop a file into the box above, or click it to choose one.
  2. Check the preview on the right to see that tables and images came through.
  3. Click the save button for the format you want. Multi-page images come as one ZIP.

When you want to edit a PDF

When you need to edit a PDF you received or reuse part of it in a new document, converting it to Word (DOCX) makes it editable. Bakooda reads the text, lines and cell colors in the PDF and rebuilds them into paragraphs and tables.

How it converts

  • Text: joined into paragraphs, keeping size, weight and color.
  • Tables: cells are found from lines and cell background colors and built into Word tables, including merged cells. Tables that span several pages are joined into one.
  • Images and charts: the area is inserted as a sharp image.
  • Headers and page numbers repeated on every page are removed.

When it doesn't work well

Scanned PDFs (photos of paper) have no text information, so each whole page is inserted as an image. Multi-column newspaper- or magazine-style documents and design documents with freely placed text may come out in a mixed-up order. After converting, compare it side by side with the original.

Frequently asked questions

Does a scanned PDF turn into text?

Text recognition (OCR) is not supported yet, so pages are inserted as images. Text recognition is in the works.

Can I also convert a PDF to a Hangul file (HWP)?

The PDF → HWP tool creates an HWPX file in the same way.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion happens only in the browser you are using. The server records only how many conversions you made today.

How many free conversions do I get?

Without logging in you can download 3 converted files and save 1 edited document a day. Viewing and previews do not count. The count resets at midnight Korea time (UTC+9).

Which files can I convert?

HWP and HWPX can become Word, PDF, JPG, HTML or TXT. Word (DOCX) can become Hangul (HWPX), PDF or JPG, and PDF can become Word, Hangul (HWPX) or JPG. You can also just view a file without converting it.

How do I get the JPGs?

A one-page document downloads as a single JPG; a longer one downloads as one ZIP with a JPG per page. Either way it counts as one conversion.

Are tables and images kept?

Yes. Merged cells, cell colors and borders, images, bold, italics, font sizes and colors, alignment, footnotes and page breaks are carried over.

Is anything left out?

HWP headers, footers and page numbers are left out. Floating images and text boxes are placed in the text flow, and equations appear as Hangul equation script.

Some files won't open.

Password-protected documents, Hangul distribution documents, HWP 3.0 (Hangul 97 and earlier) and old Word (.doc) files cannot be opened. Remove the password or save in a newer format.

Does it work on Mac and phones?

Yes. Recent Chrome, Safari and Edge work on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone.
