Since 2026 the Korean government has been blocking .hwp attachments in its document channels. The On-nara document system applied the rule to local governments from May 18, and the public officials' email system restricts .hwp attachments from October. If you send applications or replies to Korean public offices, HWPX is the safe choice.
HWPX is the Hangul document format defined by Korean national standard KS X 6101. The content is the same as HWP; only the container changed to an open ZIP + XML structure. It opens in Hangul 2014 and later.
Both are Hangul formats. HWP is the older binary format; HWPX is the open, standardized format. The content looks the same.
